Social Services
The Salvation Army Social Services Center is located on 11th Avenue North in the downtown area of Birmingham, Alabama. The center includes homeless shelters for men, women, and children. The Salvation Army administers food and financial assistance, and coordinates disaster and emergency help from this Social Services Center.

Men's Emergency Shelter
|
51 beds. Available for a free 14-night stay per month. Includes 3 meals per day.

Men's "Holdover" Shelter
|
23 beds. Available for a free 30-day stay. Client must have job or be awaiting placement at a treatment facility. Designed to help regain financial footing. Promotes addiction recovery. Includes 3 meals per day.

Men's Veteran's Shelter
|
20 beds. Available for a 12-month stay. Client must open savings account. Promotes living skills, budgeting. Includes 3 meals per day .

Women's Emergency Shelter
|
30 beds. Available for up to 90-day stay. Free for first month Promotes prevention of domestic violence. Includes 3 meals per day.

Women and Children's Shelter
|
15 beds Length of stay determined by case. Free for first month Promotes prevention of domestic violence Includes 3 meals per day. Includes child care assistance.

Transitional Housing Complex
|
12 one- and two-bedroom apartmentsFor one- and two-parent homeless families. Available for up to one year Parents must be employed or in school. Rent determined by parent income. HUD-supported program. Food Assistance Available to client twice in 6-month period. Requires proof of residence and income.

Homeless Prevention Program

Rent/mortgage, utility, and fire help. Food distributed. Wednesdays & Thursdays. Requires proof of need.

Disaster & Emergency Assistance
|
Mobile canteen (kitchen on wheels). Counseling services. Essential needs assistance.
