The greater Birmingham Salvation Army is prepared to help anyone needing shelter from the cold. The emergency shelter in downtown Birmingham expects an influx over the next couple of days and will offer free food and shelter to anyone needing it.
In Shelby County they are opening a warming station at 108 Plaza Circle in Alabaster. The schedule for now will be:
- 24 hour coffee availability for any emergency personal.
- Doors will be open for shelter from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at 108 Plaza Circle in Alabaster.
- Lunch will be made available to anyone who needs it at 11:30 a.m.
- Dinner will be made available to anyone who needs it at 5:30 p.m.
Birmingham Command will be assisting the warming station located at Boutwell in downtown Birmingham with coffee and snacks as well as blankets. We also have personal located at the EMA in Jefferson County supplying food and drinks to them. Lt. Brian Leonard is helping coordinate efforts at the state EMA office in Clanton. We will update information as needed. Be safe and warm out there.
